Our Story

Who we
are

The Trendsetters Awards was founded on a simple conviction: that the people quietly reshaping business, culture, politics, and sport deserve to be seen and celebrated.

We are an independent recognition body committed to identifying, honouring, and amplifying the bold individuals who define the standards others aspire to.

The Origin

A ceremony born from conviction

2019

Founded by Amb Gloria Boma Harry with a clear ambition: to recognise excellence across all walks of life in Rivers State. The first edition launched with an extensive range of categories spanning entertainment, media, politics, business, and public service.

2021

The awards found its footing — bigger venue, stronger sponsor support, and a growing nominee pool that reflected the breadth of talent across the state.

2023

5th Edition

The Trendsetters Awards had by now established itself as a credible, independent platform for recognising everyday excellence — with no year skipped since its founding.

2025

7th Edition

Categories remain broad and community-rooted, continuing the founding vision of shining a light on the people who shape Rivers State — one award at a time.

The Trendsetters Awards began not in a boardroom but in a conversation — one that Amb Gloria Boma Harry was determined to act on. Around her, she watched extraordinary people go unacknowledged year after year. So in 2019, she did something about it.

In a landscape where recognition tends to flow toward celebrity and entertainment, she saw an absence. The entrepreneur who turned a single idea into fifty jobs. The photographer whose images changed how a community saw itself. The web developer who built infrastructure that touched thousands of lives. The journalist who held power accountable at personal cost.

"Recognition is not vanity. It is the signal that tells the next generation what kind of excellence is worth pursuing."

Within a year, that conviction became the first edition of the Trendsetters Awards — built on a simple but uncompromising principle: every winner should earn it. Nominations are reviewed, shortlists are carefully assembled, and the public has a voice in deciding who rises to the top through an open voting process.

We are proudly independent. No government funding. No outside agenda. We answer only to the communities we serve — sustained by our sponsors, our partners, and the extraordinary nominees who trust us with their names.
